Diff the Dragon – Part Eighteen: A Battle for Books

Diff the Dragon by Angela Lott, illustrations by Richard Bartrop. An Okal Rel Universe Legacy Novella featuring the young Alivda

Angela Lott is the middle child of Lynda’s three daughters. She did two years of Business schooling at the College of New Caledonia and is now working as a receptionist at her local FYiDoctors. In her spare time she enjoys writing, video blogging, reading and watching very nerdy TV shows.

Part 18

Alivda’s version of going through books was jumping on them, ripping them and throwing them.

“NO!” Perry yelled and got up off the couch, but it was too late.

The pile of books was more like a pile of mulch. How had that child destroyed those books so fast?

Alivda just giggled some more.

Perry could tell it was hopeless; the books were finished, but there would be no more casualties if she could do anything about it!

“Where you going, Gramma?” Alivda asked, following Perry with the remains of Perry’s favourite book in her hands.

Perry had found what she wanted and turned around. She grabbed Alivda around the middle and with all her strength held her there.

Alivda thought it was a game. She tried to climb up Perry, but Perry used her anger to fuel her and kept the child still just long enough.

When the two broke apart, Alivda looked down at her chest. There was something there. It was flat and didn’t look like it would impede her movement, so Alivda ignored it, but when she turned around she toppled over.

As she got up off the ground, Alivda pulled on it. It seemed to be attached from behind. She turned her torso and saw that it extended out from her back and into Perry’s hand.
