Part 31

“Where are we going now?” Diff asked, sitting next to Amel in his envoy ship.

“Delivering a message to Horth from Ameron,” Amel said.

“Horth?” Alivda asked.

“Who is Horth?”

“Your father’s first sworn.”

Alivda made a disgruntled sound.

“My sire,” she said.

“Alright, fine,” Amel said. “Your sire.”

Alivda smiled. Her sire was the Ava or king of the whole freaking empire, but since he wouldn’t give her any power she had decided she could do better.

“So who is your father then?” Amel asked, thinking she might say Vrenn, Perry’s husband in all but ceremony.

“You’re mine,” Alivda said.

“If you say so,” Amel said, not sure how that answered his question.

“I do say so,” Alivda said.

Amel smiled and flew into dock. They both got out of the ship, Alivda in the lead, and headed for the exit.

“What is Horth like?” Alivda asked as they walked, or rather Amel walked while Alivda tried to expend as much energy as possible by skipping, hopping and jogging.

“He is very powerful and strong,” Amel said.

“Wow!” Alivda said. “I wanna be that too!”

“Maybe one day,” Amel said.

“But Mamma won’t give me any inheritance,” Alivda said. “And my sire is useless too!”

“They do love you, though,” Amel said. “That is important.”

“Huh!” Alivda said. “That won’t get me anything!”

Amel sighed. He was going to have to teach this child the meaning of love.

“Royal Envoy delivering a message for Horth Nersal,” Amel said when he got into Black Hearth.

The errant looked at Alivda.

“Plus guest,” Amel said.

“Alright,” and they were let in.

Amel asked where Horth could be found and was led to the practice area.
