Diff the Dragon – Part Thirty Three

Diff the Dragon by Angela Lott, illustrations by Richard Bartrop. An Okal Rel Universe Legacy Novella featuring the young Alivda

Angela Lott is the middle child of Lynda’s three daughters. She did two years of Business schooling at the College of New Caledonia and is now working as a receptionist at her local FYiDoctors. In her spare time she enjoys writing, video blogging, reading and watching very nerdy TV shows.

Part 33

“Why don’t you carry a sword?” Alivda asked as she walked out of the store with a child-sized sword on her hip.

Amel had not let the shopkeeper tell Alivda that the sword was only for children.

“Well, I am not very good with swords,” Amel said. “So I don’t carry one.”

“I think you are supposed to,” Diff said, “but you don’t like to.”

Wow, Amel thought, she is really observant.

“Okay,” Amel said. “Maybe you are right.”

“I am right!” Alivda said with confidence. “When will I get to fight with my sword?”

“When you are older,” Amel said.

“I am old!” Alivda protested.

“You are four,” Amel said.

“That’s old enough! Teach me swords!”

“I told you I am not very good with them,” Amel said.

Alivda pouted. She was suddenly consumed with the desire to be able to use her new sword.

But she dropped the topic … for now.
