"Well, you're not so little as you were," said Amel.
Mira was standing in the jam of the door, feelings showing only in the bloodless tensions about her mouth and eyes.
"Come on!" Amel stood, and lifted Mona to sit on his left arm. "I'll take you to your room. I have to talk to your mother."
"I wish you were my daddy," Mona murmured, on his shoulder.
"Don't," he soothed. "You had a good daddy."
