"You know Amel!" the little girl said.

"We're like this," Alivda said, holding up her crossed fingers.

"Really!" The girl's eyes were as big as saucers. Alivda enjoyed how famous her special friend was. But no matter how kind he was to everyone else, she still knew she was special to him. He only had one baby dragon.

Alivda nodded.

"Can you introduce me?"

"He's mine," Alivda said.

Commentary

Even as a child, Alivda had a conflict between enjoying Amel's fame and making damn sure he knew she wasn't just one more of his admirers. This detail from the backstory of Alivda's adopted daughter relationship with Amel is courtesy of Angela Lott.
