The House of Em is the story of Amel's childhood with Mira and her mother Emma at the gorarelpul college until he began flying for their harsh, Sevolite-hating master Shatenous at the age of 10. Shatenous is also Mira's father and a college father bent on proving Sevolites were created by the people they repress as 'commoners'. Anyone who has read the Lorel Experiment knows Shatenous is right, of course, but his hatred of Sevolite pretentions of superiority make him a harsh foster father for the Pureblood infant left in his care by his old friend Arous, Ev'rel's gorarelpul. Amel, of course, has no idea of his identity beyond being proud to be Mira's sister and Em's foster son.
